Our Journey Box

Happy 2016!

Christmas and New Year have been and gone and today was an important milestone in our Havana @ Calderwood journey. We visited Rob at McDonald Jones to go through our  set of plans and inclusions. We spent some time going through the display home to better understand how our home would look and what the term "standard" meant when looking at things like bench tops, kitchen finishes and bathrooms etc.

Although we will have a lot of time to go through the final details of inclusions and finishes with the team at the Mac Jones Colour Studio in a few weeks, it was good to be able to decide with Rob on some important things that we would like included, such as the glass doors leading from the Living Room into the Activity Area and the extra high doors for the Main Entry, Garage, Master Bedroom and En-Suite.  I hadn't even considered this when we worked out that due to our split, we would have ceilings over 9ft high in the front part of our home.. A standard height door would look exceptionally small so the extra height doors are a must.

We decided that Linda was right with her suggestion to keep the toilet seperate from the main bathroom. In my last post  (here) I alluded to these changes and indicated on the plans what the idea was. Rob agreed that many people do this when building the Havana, so the changes were incorporated into our quotation. Onya Linda! :)  We also included an extra door of storage on each built in robe in the three bedrooms. There is plenty of room to do this without taking up to much space and let's face it, you can never have enough storage space.

Today was also the day we had to pay our instalment to secure all the free inclusions that Mac Jones have thrown our way.  By paying this deposit, we are now officially underway with the builder and they mark the milestone with a "journey box".

The Journey box allows us to keep all our documents, plans, images, ideas and folders in one place. It's also a good spot for Shell to keep her "House Scrapbook".
