Are we settled yet?

PHEW!

So much work!

Silly season is over, the move is over, the cleanup and repair work at Acacia is finished and....WE HAVE TENANTS! So exciting!

Christmas was bit of a whirlwind. We officially signed our lease for Bartlett Crescent on the 11th December and moved in that week. Given there was very little lead up time to us deciding to move and actually HAVING to move, it was huge effort to pack up our 3 bedroom home. Thanks to a very good friend I had a large, enclosed trailer for the week which allowed me to move many things over several days.  Saturday was truck day, the plan being everything else bar the big stuff would already be gone and by Saturday afternoon, the joint would be empty. Good in theory but not 100% achievable.  Still, by Saturday evening we were officially residents of Calderwood Valley.

The following week was the week before Christmas. I was officially back at work for the week with Saturday being the day for a road trip to Brisbane to spend Christmas with John and Kerry.  I spent most evenings at Acacia Ave (now nicknamed "the small house") painting, re-grouting tiles, staining decks and tying up loose bits and pieces. I was knackered.

2 coats of deck stain and she's as good as new.

What's not to like about this?

An entertainers delight! :P

The trailer! Thanks John :)

Oops! The Beetle still isn't finished. Pain in the bum.

After a bit of effort, he's on the trailer.

My last photo on the Saturday afternoon. Bye Bye small house.

A bit different to when we bought it...see pic below.
May 2005...when we first saw our little house. The next month it was ours :)

We had a lovely time in Brissy and I was thankful for a little bit of downtime even though it was incredibly hot and humid. We had a great Christmas Day but as always...it was over before we knew it. We left on the Thursday morning and made the effort to travel back in one day as there was so much to do. We did pop in to see Mum and Max though :) The next week saw New Years celebrations followed by a return to work once again and evenings spent cleaning and repairing. The short work week was very much needed as we really wanted to be done by the following weekend. Thanks to a team of good friends we got the cleaning done in no time at all - thanks so much Nic, Bek & Irene :)

Wednesday saw Sheldon from Harcourts pay us a visit with her photographer, in preparation for the ad to go up for our hunt for some tenants.  The photos came up really nice and the little house looked fantastic! By lunchtime Friday 5th Jan, the ad was live!!

Sheldon decided to have the house open for 15 minutes the following day, 10am on the Saturday.  I was still around as I was finishing off some loose ends and I was gobsmacked by  the number of people that came through in such a short period of time.  I was confident that somewhere in that group was the right person/people for our little house and sure enough, by the Wednesday we had ourselves a tenant. There wasn't even time for a sign to go out the front!

Our tenant moved in on the Friday which was a massive relief. Since then we have spent some time sorting our new home and unpacking necessary boxes. Now that I have time to write this blog I think it is safe to say that we are pretty settled and there isn't much more to do.

So far it's great settling into the community that will be our home for many years to come.  The pressure of the build and timelines just doesn't matter anymore as we have enough space to be more than comfortable and Josh has ample quiet areas to prepare for the busy HSC year ahead.  Being able to keep an eye on our block and the progress of the clean up work sis nice too.

Some pics below from my walk around this afternoon. There is so much work going on!

That escarpment 💜

New roundabout on Escarpment Drive between 2B and 2C

Drainage pipes for the extension to Escarpment Drive

What's left of North Macquarie drive heading east. This will be closed off in a few months I reckon.

One of the ponds being developed. The area around the sports fields will have multiple ponds.

Retaining walls

It's gonna be a great place to walk around in a couple of years

The trees in the centre divide near Honeybee. They've taken well.
