Djindi Bridge

Yesterday afternoon the main link across the Macquarie Rivulet within Calderwood Valley opened.  The opening of Djinji Bridge is a pretty big milestone for the new community as it provides direct access to the new estate from the Illawarra Highway and joins the new Escarpment Drive to the roads through releases 1A, 1B, 1C & 1D to our release up on the hill.

The name Djindi means ‘mist’ in the Dharawal language and provides a nice link to the aboriginal heritage of the area. The opening ceremony also coincided with National Reconciliation Week - so it was good timing :)

The bridge measures 144m long and 12 metres wide, includes two lanes for vehicles and a 3m walkway for pedestrians and cyclists. I believe the company involved in it's construction were the same people involved with he design and construction of the world famous Sea Cliff Bridge in the northern Illawarra as well as the Omega Bridge in Gerringong.

Here is a short video I shot this morning as I drove through.
